Overland – Martyn Jones

Martyn Jones is a contemporary Welsh artist currently represented by the Kooywood Gallery Cardiff and the Robert Steele Gallery, New York. He exhibits regularly in both the United Kingdom and the United States of America and has work in both private and institutional collections in both countries.

Current work continues to intriguingly explore the theme of ‘Place and Time’. When questioned about his preoccupation with this theme Jones had commented ‘...we are here all of us, in some place or other, and time is all around us, just ticking away!’

Jones’s compositions encapsulate a natural ambiguity, but as we are warned by the artist, ‘...the ambiguity which my work is said to reveal, should not be construed as manufactured in any way. Within each image an open invitation is challengingly presented to the percipient.’

In the end however, as we are reminded by Jones, ‘it’s up to the individual!’
‘Whatever happens, however, to me my greatest challenge will always be my work.’
