Inside and Out Dilys Jackson’s works derive from her outer and inner environment from which she sees a kinaesthetic relationship between land or plant forms and those of the human body. These particular pieces echo the golden rounded slopes of the South Wales valleys and the wild waters that spring from them. The materials of which the works are made have an intrinsic weight and presence, but there is also a sensation of their mass and contained spaces which derives from the perceived processes of movement which appear to have formed them. Each work has formal elements of mass and division and of contrasting textures. They embody the dynamic balance between pressure of weight and the release of pressure, between the form and mould of male and female and between inner and outer space. "Dilys Jackson is one of Wales' most daring artistic explorers. The book, Dilys Jackson Sculptor, offers an insight into the humanity and passion, which has always informed the making process of her elegant but austere abstractions."
