Nearly There
An Exhibition by Castle Quilters
10th May - 28th June 2008

From its inception in 1984 Castle Quilters has gone through many changes before evolving into the active collective it is today. Originally members came from the immediate area surrounding Llanfoist, Abergavenny but today they travel many miles to be part of this quilting community.

We are a dedicated and talented group of craftswomen, producing work both for our own pleasure and as heirlooms for our families and friends. Our age range is diverse, consisting of pre-war babies, wartime teenagers, sixties chicks through to glam rock babes. All of which helps to make our show a unique mixture of individual styles, tastes and influences.

Some of our members are hardcore hand quilters making traditional quilts, whilst others prefer to use their machines to produce more contemporary pieces. Yet for all its diversity it all falls within the field of what we today call ‘Patchwork / Quilting’.
Over the years quilting has given us endless pleasure both for ourselves as individuals and as a group in addition to which it has also allowed us to raise thousands of pounds for various charities.
The work on display has been chosen to show the range of members’ skills - from early Castle Quilter challenges, to first attempts by newer members who are now proud to call themselves ‘Quilters’, knowing that this is the craft for them!

In 2009 we will be celebrating our 25th Anniversary, hence the title we have chosen for our exhibition ‘NEARLY THERE’’.
