Ancient Landscapes, Ancient Crafts
David
Walsh
12th February 2005 – 26th March 2005
Through my work as a photographer I have recently
been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to document two of
my great passions, the traditional craft of the farrier and the
poetic beauty of the landscape of Wales.
My fascination with the craft of the farrier comes
from a period during my engineering apprenticeship spent working
with the company blacksmith. The power of the farrier coupled with
the delicacy and skill required to work and shape the hot metal
still holds a fascination for me.
The landscapes come from my love of the outdoors.
The monoliths of Wales have inspired the work shown here. There
is something both compelling and timeless about the way these ancient
stones seem to cast a spell over the surrounding landscape. The
images selected for show cover monuments from the Neolithic to Iron
Age 5,000 BC – 100 AD.
David Walsh, an aircraft engineer by profession,
was born in Hirwaun but has lived most of his life in Trecynon.
He has recently completed a Degree in Media Practice from the University
of Glamorgan.
