‘Africa a continent so visually exciting, a people hard working and friendly yet in pockets of conflict so dangerous and cruel one can only wonder the depth of hatred inside and ask the question ‘why?’ A climate that has created a lifestyle unique, a landscape diverse, a wildlife still wild, a continent that takes life as easily as it gives.’
‘Africa – Against All Odds’ is a book and exhibition celebrating the many diverse facets of this vibrant but troubled continent. It looks at the African continent, its beauty and its beast and the issues it faces today and in its future, through the written word and the stunning black and white photography of award winning photojournalist Glenn Edwards.
Glenys Kinnock MEP pens the book’s forward, with accompanying text by the former Foreign Editor of The Independent on Sunday, James Roberts and Glenn Edwards.
Glenn Edwards studied under Magnum photographer David Hurn from 1983-1985. He was a former staff photographer at the Western Mail but has mainly worked as a freelance photographer for National newspapers and Magazines.
In addition to Africa Glenn has worked in Bosnia, India, Albania, Latvia and Iceland. His first introduction to Africa came in 1993 when he covered the Somali Famine for The Independent. Since then he has returned to Africa many times working in Namibia, Gambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi and Sierra Leone.
